Car Insurance Toyota (Car Insurance). my brakes worn i know. I feel a grinding when stopping. No noise No less stopping power.?my brakes worn i know. I feel a grinding when stopping. No noise No less stopping power.? Just a bumpy feeling in my foot on pedal. i tell this to the mechanic and he says Caliber could be bad. I know these shoes were getting low and i just started feel this roughness. No sound or warning lights. Do yo think its just pads? i do. I think he's trying to set me up for the Caliber replacement - there all thief's. Your brake pads aren't just worn they're gone. That grinding sound is the metal bracket rubbing against your rotor. Now you need to have your rotor turned, or just have new pads put on. It's likely that nothing is wrong with you caliper, the caliper is an expensive part for sure(usually 50-150$). Now that your rotor is damaged you will need to have it turned(smoothed). There are grooves in your rotor from the metal on metal grinding. The brake pad needs a smooth, even surface to press against. Take the car elsewhere. Having your rotor turned is less than 5 bucks at most parts dealers. Pads cost thirty bucks for a complete set. Your problem should cost between 40 and 100 dollars, anything more's a ripoff. *Calipers usually stay good for twenty years or more, they are a hydraulic part. Getting dirt or something like that in your brake fluid would be bad for the calipers. To much salt getting in them would be bad. If you live in a place that gets extremely hot and cold(there's also a rubber boot in the compression part of the caliper) I don't think there's a thing wrong with your calipers. you have worn your pads down to the metal rivets which hold the pads in place. those rivets are now grinding on your caliper...this will make grooves in the caliper and will weaken it. you will more than likely need to get new ones. Take your car to a 'brake' shop; they will do a 'free' inspection and let you know what's going on. As for the 'warnings'.......the only warning you will have is with the 'bumpy feeling on your foot pedal. You will NOT hear any sounds until the pad is completely gone nor will there be any warning lights. "Just a bumpy feeling in my foot on pedal" it,s not the caliper you ruin, it,s the pads and brake rotor. once the pads gets worn down to the metal then they will eat into the rotors. all calipers will do is freeze up or start leaking. Toyota . How do I Troubleshoot a Bose Sound System for a 2002 Nissan Maxima? There are a variety of different versions of the Bose sound system installed in the 2002 Nissan Maxima. Some versions of the system include only the radio and cassette player, while others feature compact disk players in addition to the radio and cassette player. Regardless of the specific version of the Bose sound system installed in the vehicle, there are several steps that can be taken prior to taking the car to a dealership for service. Difficulty:Easy Instructions Step by Step : 1 Verify that the car is either turned on or that the ignition is in the "ACC" position. The sound system will not function otherwise. 2 Press the "audio" button on the radio to access the fader and balance menus as well as the bass and treble. If the balance or fader is adjusted too far to the back of the vehicle or to one side, the overall quality of the sound will suffer. 3 Ensure that the speed sensitive control volume is set properly. If enabled, this system automatically changes the volume as the vehicle's speed increases. The controls for the system can be accessed by pressing the "audio" button until the "SCV" menu appears.
Toyota . How to Check the Light Codes on the 1997 Mitsubishi MonteroThe Mitsubishi Montero was first introduced in the United States in 1982, and was known as one of the most luxurious all-terrain vehicles of its time. The 1997 Montero was equipped with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine capable of producing 200 horsepower and 228 pound-feet of torque. The 1997 Montero was produced with four-wheel disc brakes, independent front suspension and an I-beam rear suspension. An OBD-II (On Board Diagnostics) computer controlled the engine in the 1997 Montero. Difficulty:Moderately Easy Instructions Things You'll Need OBD-II scan tool Step by Step : 1 Open the driver's door of the vehicle. Plug an OBD-II scanner into the OBD-II port. The OBD-II port is a bus port to the left of the steering column, behind the kick panel of the dashboard. 2 Turn the ignition key to the "II" position, or accessories. The accessories position activates all of the dashboard lights and some electronic functions. Do not turn the vehicle on for this test. 3 Turn the power on to the OBD-II scanner. Select "Read Codes" from the main menu of the scanner. There are a series of questions involving your vehicle's year, make and model, following the main screen. Select the correct information pertaining to your vehicle, using the "Up" and "Down" arrows. Press the "Read" key to accept all of your answers. When you have finished making your selections, the OBD-II machine will communicate with the vehicle's computer and present you with various numbers and information. 4 Write down each code and the information that accompanies the code, using a pen and paper. Tips & Warnings OBD-Codes.com is a noncommercial website where you can find more information on your Montero's codes. Do not erase "Check engine" light codes until the proper work has been performed to eliminate the source of the codes. Failure to adhere to this warning could cause damage to the engine, drivetrain and electrical components. Erasing the codes without performing the work can result in engine or vehicle fire. *There are several ways to check whether your PCV valve is functioning properly. Pick the one that seems easiest for you: * Method 1: With the engine idling, pinch the hose hard to shut off any air that may be going through it, but don't puncture the hose. If the PCV valve is operating, the idle speed should drop perceptibly; you'll be able to hear the change. ^ Method 2: Remove the PCV valve from the valve cover, with the hose still attached, and place your finger over the open end of it (see Figure 13-8). If it's working well, you will feel strong suction. * Method 3: Remove the oil filler cap from the valve cover and place a stiff piece of paper over the opening. If your PCV valve is working properly, the paper should be sucked against the hole within seconds. Figure 13-8: One way to checkyour PCV valve. .Chapter 13: Keeping Your Fuel System in Tune Checking the PCV Valve hose While you have the PCV valve off, check the hose by removing it and blowing through it. If the hose is dry, brittle, soft and spongy, or full of sludge or hard deposits, replace it. When everything is shipshape once more, reassemble the hose and valve and put them back on. Lacquer thinner and fuel oil can also do the job. There should be no gummy deposits or discoloration on a clean valve. If your PCV valve must be replaced, buy a new one, remove the old valve, and insert the new one in its place. Tuning j/aur Carburetor Carburetors on 1970s and later vehicles require very few adjustments because of tighter emissions regulations. If you have a carburetor that's older than that (see Figure 13-9), you can do several things to keep it in tune: * Adjust the idle speed screw to keep the vehicle idling at the proper number of revolutions per minute (rpm). * Readjust the automatic choke if your vehicle doesn't start properly in the morning.
